Post-Computing Lab
Antidisciplinary Research Network & Platform
The Post-Computing Lab is an antidisciplinary research network &
platform, a cross-departmental initiative led by MDEF (Master in Design
for Emergent Futures) at Elisava School of Design.
This platform reimagines research and education in a world where
computation is ambient, embodied, and entangled with life. It serves as a
catalyst for radical inquiry, speculative design, and collaborative
experimentation at the edge of art, technology, and philosophy.
Operating across Elisava Bachelor and Master programs and anchored
by a six-month curriculum from January to June 2026, the platform invites
students and faculty to engage in a post-computing civilization centered
on themes such as AI, neural media, intimate technologies, and synthetic
ecologies.
This is an
extra-curricular program designed for students
who want to develop their final year project within its radical framework,
culminating in a global summit in June in Barcelona.
Key Pillars
-
Antidisciplinary ResearchBreaking disciplinary silos to merge science, design, philosophy, and
emerging technologies.
-
Speculative PrototypingCreating tangible future scenarios that challenge conventional
assumptions.
-
Experimental CollaborationBringing together institutions, researchers, artists, designers, and
technologists to co-create new knowledge.
We are actively seeking student projects that align with and explore the
following critical themes:
-
Neural MediaThe fusion of AI, neural interfaces, and immersive
environments.
-
Intimate TechnologiesComputing in, on, around the body.
-
NBIC ConvergenceThe convergence of nanotechnology, biotechnology, information
technology, and cognitive science.
-
Biology <> TechnologyBrain organoids and Organoid Intelligence.
-
Ethical & Social ImplicationsThe risks and responsibilities of a world where life itself is
programmable.
-
Planetary InterfacesHow computation operates across scales from the microscopic to the
planetary.
-
Synthetic EcologiesDesigning with and for post-natural systems.
